- Visually inspect cutting edges for chipping or visible wear
- Confirm stripper and V-ring surfaces are clean and free of debris
- Check lubrication delivery to guide pins and wear plates
Weekly Checks
- Measure sample burr height against the drawing specification
- Inspect ejector pins for free movement and wear
- Check die-set guide pin and bushing clearance
Signs a Die Needs Attention
- Gradually increasing burr height on an otherwise stable process
- Inconsistent part flatness across a production run
- Increased noise or vibration during the cutting stroke
Documentation
Track cumulative strokes per die and correlate maintenance actions against strokes, not just calendar time — tool steel wear is a function of cycles, not days.
